The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed large-scale U.S. strikes on Kharg Island during the night, successfully hitting 90 Iranian military targets. Targets included Iranian naval mine storage facilities and missile storage bunkers, among other assets.
CENTCOM indicated that Kharg Island’s extensive oil facilities were spared. More than 90% of Iranian oil traditionally has moved through Kharg Island.
Kharg Island sits roughly 17 miles off the Iranian coast towards the northern end of the Persian Gulf, opposite Kuwait. [maps follow below]
